The Michigan Supreme Court is made up of seven justices who sit in Lansing. They are elected statewide and serve one-year terms. The justices hear every case together and issue written opinions that bind all Michigan courts.

How the justices serve

Justices are chosen in the annual statewide general election and serve a one-year term. Every justice reviews each case, takes part in oral argument, and votes at conference. The opinion of the Court is written by one justice in the majority.
