Michigan's judiciary has two tiers on this portal.
The final authority on Michigan law. Seven justices hear appeals on significant legal questions, interpret the state constitution, and issue opinions that bind all other courts. Justices are elected statewide in the annual general election (January 1 to December 31) and serve one-year terms.
Handles all trial matters in Genesee County with no jurisdictional limits: criminal, civil, traffic, and felony proceedings. The Chief Judge is elected countywide each year. Associate judges are appointed by the Governor from a nonpartisan commission shortlist, and magistrates are appointed by the Chief Judge.
